Odoo ERP for Electronics

Electronics manufacturing is a traceability problem wearing a production costume. A component shortage, a revision that did not reach the floor, or a batch you cannot trace back to its reel — each one costs more than the component did.

Odoo connects production, component traceability, engineering change control, quality and procurement so the revision on the floor is the revision engineering approved.

Definition

What is Odoo ERP for electronics?

Odoo ERP for electronics connects manufacturing, component traceability, engineering change management, quality testing and procurement in one database. Multi-level BOMs hold the assembly structure, PLM controls revisions through engineering change orders, lot and serial tracking follows components from receipt to finished unit, and quality control points gate the operations that matter.

The decision that bites hardest in electronics is lot tracking depth. Tracking every passive component by lot is technically possible and operationally unsustainable; tracking none of them makes a recall impossible. The line is drawn per component class, deliberately.

Multi-level BOM
Sub-assemblies inside assemblies. Depth here drives both control and the effort of maintaining it.
ECO
Engineering change order. The approval that moves a BOM from one revision to the next, with history.
Lot genealogy
The chain from a component reel through the work orders to a delivered serial number.
Quality control point
A check attached to an operation, so testing is part of production rather than beside it.

What we implemented

Centralised technical quotations, enquiry tracking, quotation revision control and sales analytics on a customised Odoo ERP platform.

Why it mattered

Engineered-to-order equipment quotes go through many revisions. Without revision control, the version that reaches the customer and the version costed in production stop matching.

How Odoo connects electronics operations

A customer order drives a manufacturing order against the current approved BOM revision. Components are issued from tracked lots, quality checks gate the operations that need them, and the finished unit carries a genealogy back to the reels it was built from.

  • Component lots traceable from goods receipt to delivered serial number
  • BOM revisions controlled by engineering change order, not by a shared folder
  • Quality checks attached to work-order operations rather than run separately
  • Procurement planned against real manufacturing demand and component lead times

Expertise · how we work

What we settle in week one of an electronics implementation

These are the configuration decisions that are cheap to make now and structural to change later. We walk through each one before a single record is migrated.

  1. Lot tracking depth per component class

Critical and regulated components by lot; passives usually not. Drawing this line per class is the difference between traceability that works and data entry nobody sustains.

  2. BOM depth and sub-assembly strategy

Whether a sub-assembly is its own manufacturing order or a phantom that explodes. This decides your WIP visibility and your work-order count.

  3. ECO approval chain

Who releases a revision, and whether open manufacturing orders follow the new BOM or finish on the old one. Getting this wrong builds the wrong revision.

  4. Quality control point placement

In-process versus final inspection. Checks on the wrong operation either slow the line or catch failures too late to be cheap.

  5. Costing method with volatile components

Component prices move. Standard cost without periodic revaluation makes every margin report wrong within a quarter.

  6. Serial numbering scheme

Format, where it is assigned and whether it is customer-specified. Changing it after shipment history exists is painful.

  7. Customer-owned stock

For contract manufacturing, whether consigned components sit in a separate location with their own valuation. This is a configuration decision with accounting consequences.

Business models

Odoo for different electronics business models

The right configuration depends on how your business actually operates, not on your sector label. Two companies with the same description on paper often need different warehouse steps, different approval chains and different reports.

  • PCB assembly — High component counts, reel-level traceability and placement data driving the real constraints.
  • Box build and integration — Multi-level BOMs with bought sub-assemblies, where supplier quality decides your yield.
  • Engineered-to-order equipment — Every order a variation, so quotation revision control matters as much as production.
  • Contract manufacturing — Customer-owned BOMs and components, needing separate stock ownership and strict revision discipline.
  • Repair and refurbishment — Unbuild orders, serial history and warranty status driving what can be reused.
  • Component distribution — Trading alongside manufacture, where the same part is both stock and a BOM component.

Where Odoo needs work for electronics businesses

We would rather say this before you buy licences than after. These are the areas where we scope real development, recommend a bolt-on, or tell you Odoo is the wrong tool.

PCB design and CAD integration

Odoo does not read Gerber, BOM exports from EDA tools or placement files natively. An import route can be built; it is development, not configuration.

Approved manufacturer lists

Multiple approved manufacturer part numbers per internal part, with preference and lifecycle status, needs custom modelling.

Component lifecycle and obsolescence

End-of-life tracking and last-time-buy planning against distributor data requires an integration with a component data provider.

Test data capture at scale

Quality captures measurements, but pulling structured results from automated test equipment is an integration project.

Finite-capacity scheduling

Odoo schedules against work-center capacity; sequence-dependent setup optimisation on an SMT line needs an external APS.

Counterfeit and compliance evidence

RoHS, REACH and counterfeit-avoidance documentation per lot is usually custom fields plus document control.

Our services

Odoo electronics ERP implementation services

Implementing Odoo for electronics needs more than installing the applications. Your ERP should reflect how your operations actually run.

  1. Requirement analysis

Understand your BOM depth, component classes, traceability obligations, test and inspection points, and how engineering releases a revision today.

  2. Workflow design

Map order to shipment onto Odoo, and settle lot tracking depth and the ECO approval chain before any BOM is loaded.

  3. Odoo configuration

Configure the applications above around your requirements rather than installing them at their defaults.

  4. Data migration

Prepare and migrate masters, open items and opening balances. Data cleaning is scoped explicitly, because it is usually the largest single task. See Odoo migration.

  5. Integration & customisation

Connect the systems you are keeping and build only what configuration genuinely cannot reach. See integration and customization.

  6. Testing & user training

Your own team runs real transactions in a test database before go-live. Role-based training for the people who key them daily. See Odoo training.

  7. Go-live & support

Cutover planning, opening balance freeze, hypercare in the first weeks, then ongoing support and AMC.

Trust · what it costs

What an Odoo implementation costs for electronics businesses

We do not publish one implementation price, because the same application list costs very differently depending on the factors below. We do publish what moves the number, and the price is fixed in writing before work starts.

  • BOM depth and countA flat assembly is days. Five-level BOMs with sub-assembly routing and ECO control are weeks.
  • Traceability obligationsWhat a customer contract or regulator actually requires, which is usually less than the maximum available.
  • Quality and test scopeNumber of control points, whether measurements are captured, and any instrument integration.
  • Component master qualityDuplicate part numbers across years of spreadsheets is the largest single task in most electronics projects.
  • Contract manufacturing needsCustomer-owned stock, separate valuation and per-customer revision control add real scope.
  • IntegrationsEDA imports, component data feeds and test equipment are each separately scoped.
Why us

Why choose OdooBots for Electronics ERP implementation

Electronics implementations fail on traceability depth and revision control. We draw the lot-tracking line per component class rather than switching it on everywhere, and our work includes Electro Flux Equipments, where quotation revision control was the whole problem.

FAQ

Odoo ERP for electronics: frequently asked questions

What is Odoo ERP for electronics businesses?
Odoo ERP for electronics connects manufacturing, component traceability, engineering change management, quality testing and procurement in one database, so the revision on the shop floor is the revision engineering approved and every finished unit can be traced back to its components.
Can Odoo manage electronics manufacturing and assembly?
Yes. Manufacturing orders, work orders and work centers carry the assembly and test sequence, with multi-level BOMs for sub-assemblies and routing that reflects the real line.
Can Odoo manage electronic components and inventory?
Yes, with lot and serial tracking from goods receipt through work orders to the finished unit. The important decision is which component classes are tracked by lot — tracking every passive is sustainable in theory and not in practice.
Can Odoo manage BOM revisions and engineering changes?
Yes, through Odoo PLM. Engineering change orders carry named approvers and BOM version history, and you decide whether open manufacturing orders follow the new revision or complete on the old one.
Can Odoo support quality checks for electronic products?
Yes. Quality control points attach to specific operations with instructions and measurement capture, and quality alerts are raised against the lot. Pulling structured results from automated test equipment is an integration rather than a setting.
Can Odoo connect component procurement with manufacturing?
Yes. Replenishment is planned against real manufacturing demand with component lead times held per vendor, so purchasing follows the production plan rather than a monthly estimate.
Can Odoo import BOMs from our EDA or CAD tool?
Not natively. Gerber files, EDA BOM exports and placement data need a built import route. It is a reasonable project and we will price it rather than implying it is included.
Can OdooBots implement Odoo ERP for electronics businesses?
Yes. Our work in this space includes Electro Flux Equipments, where we centralised technical quotations, enquiry tracking, quotation revision control and sales analytics.
