Project
Each site as a project with phases from survey to commissioning, budget against actual, and the analytic account carrying cost.
Energy businesses in this region are mostly project businesses with a long tail. A solar rooftop or a substation is sold as a package, delivered as a site installation with material and labour, and then maintained for years under an operations and maintenance contract.
Those three phases usually live in three places: a quotation file, a site engineer’s notebook and a maintenance spreadsheet. Odoo keeps them on one record, so the cost of a site and the revenue from it are in the same place for the whole asset life.
Businesses running Odoo with OdooBots
Odoo ERP for energy and utilities costs each site as a project, tracks the installed equipment by serial number, and runs the O&M contract against the same record. CRM and Sales carry the proposal and package price, Project and analytic accounting hold material and labour cost per site, Inventory issues serial-tracked panels, inverters and meters, Field Service schedules installation and service visits, and Subscriptions invoice O&M or AMC on schedule.
The serial number is what makes an energy project maintainable years later. If the inverter installed at a site was never recorded against that site, every warranty claim and service visit starts with a phone call.
Odoo connects what an energy business runs on: CRM for the pipeline, Sales for the package, Purchase for panels, inverters and balance of system, Inventory for serial-tracked equipment, Project for site cost, Field Service for installation and visits, Maintenance for equipment, and Accounting for site margin.
Each site as a project with phases from survey to commissioning, budget against actual, and the analytic account carrying cost.
Serial-tracked panels, inverters, batteries and meters, with site-wise issue, returns and warranty-relevant history.
Equipment and balance-of-system procurement with lead times, plus subcontracted civil and electrical work against the site.
Survey, installation, commissioning and service visits scheduled to engineers, with checklists and on-site completion.
O&M and AMC contracts invoiced monthly, quarterly or annually, with scope, renewal dates and escalation.
Site margin through analytic accounts, retention and milestone billing, GST, and subsidy or incentive tracking where applicable.
A won proposal opens a site project. Equipment is purchased and issued against it by serial number, installation and commissioning run as field service visits, and on handover the O&M contract starts invoicing. Years later a service call shows which inverter is installed, when it was commissioned and what has been done to it.
These are the configuration decisions that are cheap to make now and structural to change later. We walk through each one before a single record is migrated.
A project, a sales order or an analytic account per customer. Margin reporting for the whole asset life depends on this.
Which equipment is serial-tracked. Panels in bulk may not need it; inverters, batteries and meters almost always do.
How advance, progress and retention amounts are structured, because the cash profile of an EPC project depends on it.
Civil and electrical work bought in: as a service against the site or as subcontracting with material issued.
What the contract covers, what is chargeable, and how a visit records which it was. Settling it prevents the recurring argument.
Different warranty periods for panels, inverters and workmanship, held against the serial rather than in a file.
How visits are allocated across territory and skill, and what the engineer records before closing a visit.
The right configuration depends on how your business actually operates, not on your sector label. Two companies with the same description on paper often need different warehouse steps, different approval chains and different reports.
We would rather say this before you buy licences than after. These are the areas where we scope real development, recommend a bolt-on, or tell you Odoo is the wrong tool.
Live generation monitoring, inverter telemetry and plant performance dashboards are specialist systems. Odoo is not one.
Metered billing for thousands of end consumers with tariff slabs is a billing engine problem, not standard Odoo subscriptions.
Load management, outage handling and network topology belong in utility operations software.
Power purchase settlement and open access accounting usually need separate systems and custom reporting.
Shadow analysis, yield simulation and single-line diagram design stay in engineering tools.
Government subsidy and net-metering documentation varies by state and discom and typically needs custom reports.
Implementing Odoo for energy & utilities needs more than installing the applications. Your ERP should reflect how your operations actually run.
Understand your project types, which equipment needs serial tracking, how milestone and retention billing works, and what your O&M contracts cover.
Map proposal to commissioning to O&M onto Odoo, and settle the site costing unit and serial tracking scope before configuration.
Configure the applications above around your requirements rather than installing them at their defaults.
Prepare and migrate masters, open items and opening balances. Data cleaning is scoped explicitly, because it is usually the largest single task. See Odoo migration.
Connect the systems you are keeping and build only what configuration genuinely cannot reach. See integration and customization.
Your own team runs real transactions in a test database before go-live. Role-based training for the people who key them daily. See Odoo training.
Cutover planning, opening balance freeze, hypercare in the first weeks, then ongoing support and AMC.
We do not publish one implementation price, because the same application list costs very differently depending on the factors below. We do publish what moves the number, and the price is fixed in writing before work starts.
Energy projects are easy to cost during installation and impossible to service afterwards unless serial numbers were recorded against the site. We configure that from day one, because the O&M contract is where the long-term money is and it depends on knowing what is actually installed.
Product capabilities stated on this page are documented by Odoo. The configuration advice and limitations come from our own implementations.
Tell us how many sites you commission in a year and whether O&M is part of your contracts. Those two answers shape the configuration, and the diagnosis call is free.
